Character Studies in the Bible: Why?

Good piece on why we should not use character studies in Bible study.  I have often wondered why; my suspicion is that they sell and it gives Bible study writers another notch on their belt.  The only character worth studying in depth in the Scriptures in Christ.

Maybe it isn't the character study at all, but the way it is taught. Even teaching the character of Christ is useless if it isn't connected to the power of the Holy Spirit in us. If we can't aspire to be a Joseph, we certainly can't aspire to be a Jesus.
I think maybe that author just had a bad experience.
