Thoughts on prayer

We had a sermon on prayer this morning.  Why do sermons on prayer always mention the saints like Wesley, Hyde, etc. who got up at 4:00 to pray two or three hours?

These stories do not help us to pray.  What helps us to pray is to show that it is not an option, it works, that it is not an endurance race, that it transforms us, and that there is a lot more to pray for than we think.  Let's start with the world situation.  Why not pray for Syria, Egypt, and Sudan?  We don't because we are ignorant of those matters.  If we have a bigger vision of the world, we would have a bigger prayer life.
