I wish I had written this

From Facebook. Moving and true.  Have you ever noticed how in the scriptures men are always going up into the mountains to commune with the Lord? Yet in the scriptures we hardly ever hear of women going to the mountains. But we know why — right? Because the women were too busy keeping life going; they couldn’t abandon babies, meals, homes, fires, gardens, and a thousand responsibilities to make the climb into the mountains! I was talking to a friend the other day, saying that as modern woman I feel like I’m never “free” enough from my responsibilities, never in a quiet enough space I want with God. Her response floored me, “That is why God comes to women. Men have to climb the mountain to meet God, but God comes to women where ever they are.” I have been pondering on her words for weeks and have searched my scriptures to see that what she said is true. God does in deed come to women where they are, when they are doi

Nutrition

Last semester I taught a class on Health and Health Information Literacy. I team taught it with an expert, a biologist, and I learned a lot, probably more than the students. I like to read good articles on health and exercise. I like this one:  https://www.wired.com/story/cheese-actually-isnt-bad-for-you/?utm_source=pocket-newtab Why do I like it? Because all my life I have heart that what is bad for you is: Cheese, eggs, milk, coffee, bananas, nuts (note that no animal has to die to give us these) They aren't. What is bad for you are: bacon, sausage, red meat, bologna, white bread (other than small amounts), potatoes (esp. French fries), white sugar, doughnuts, sodas I do not pretend to be the healthiest person on the planet. I'm overweight but I'm active. But we can all do better and make reasonable steps, everyday.

Lent Begins: A non-poem poem

Prepare your heart for a period of Him-ness Begin with sorrow for our sins that demanded sacrifice  Walk to the cross in Scripture as He walked in Jerusalem Wait by the tomb in hope, not despair Rejoice with the brethren that He is risen Forty days from cold to warmth, from dark to light. ____ I don't pretend to be a poet, though. However, I recommend a book by John Piper, 50 Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die . You can get it for a quarter on Amazon, really. It's very good for contemplation during Lent.  Don't give something "bad" up. Embrace something "good."

Probably the most saddening fall I've read about

https://frenchpress.thedispatch.com/p/you-are-one-step-away-from-complete  I'm a fan of David French, although that's a bit ironic considering the topic of this post. I have heard and seen the fall of many Christian leaders due to sexual sin but I'm not sure one has hurt me the same way as that of Ravi Zacharias. I read his books and listened to his podcast. My son tried to get a job with RZIM because it had meant so much to his faith development. My husband was blessed by his YouTube videos.   David French's editorial here is in line with the Christianity Today reports and probably echoes what millions of us are thinking right now. We believed him during the Thompson "scandal." We thought, "How awful that Christian leaders are open to such attacks." But it wasn't a scam from the Thompsons. It was a scam from Zacharias. I was a little more perplexed by the "Dr." when he didn't really earn one.* I'm sure his written work and s

Hello!

Yes, I know I haven't blogged in a while. But something will be coming soon. I've been in a writing funk with the start of the semester, but it's lifting..... I have been vaccinated, though. It definitely had a kick. But the way I was vaccinated should be everywhere--I didn't get out of my car.  Brilliant.
