Advent Visualized

 This work by Caspar David Friedrich (the painter of that breathtaking Wanderwe Above a Sea of Fog) speaks to me today. 

It does not matter that Jesus was probably not born in winter, despite our legends to the contrary. We celebrate it in the deepest, darkest time of the year. I think that makes more sense than doing it in the summer or spring. Symbolically, He comes in the deepest time of mankind, of our lives.
